Executive Leadership Team

Sarah DiJulio, Principal, launched and directs M+R’s online advocacy and fundraising division. Sarah has provided strategic consulting and training on online advocacy and fundraising to major nonprofits, served as a spokeswoman about Internet campaigns for major media outlets, and led innovative and successful nonprofit online marketing campaigns. Currently, Sarah provides strategic consulting to a number of M+R clients including The Wilderness Society, Oxfam America, Human Rights Campaign, Plan USA, and American Rights at Work.

 

 

Bill Wasserman, Principal, brings a wealth of public policy and public relations experience to M+R. Before joining M+R, Bill served in the Clinton administration as director of the Office of Consumer Affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he advised the secretary of Agriculture on consumer issues, conducted constituent briefings and public hearings on departmental programs, and directed marketing campaigns to improve childhood nutrition. Prior to serving in the Clinton administration Bill led numerous national campaigns on consumer, environmental and civil liberties issues. At M+R, Bill has been the primary political consultant for the grassroots and media campaign to end the genocide in Darfur Sudan.

 

 

Tom Novick, Principal, leads M+R’s Strategic Consulting division and has 30 years of experience on issue and electoral campaigns at the state and national level. He is a former Oregon legislator who, prior to M+R, served as executive director of the Oregon PIRG and as program director for the Western States Center, a regional progressive organization focused on state issues in eight states in the West. Tom has evaluated and consulted on dozens of campaigns and movements including America Coming Together, America Votes, Center for Community Change, League of Conservation Voters, Health Care for America Now, Clean energy Works, and many others. He has conducted assessments for dozens of funders and philanthropists including the Beldon Fund, the Energy Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts, the Packard Foundation, Atlantic Philanthropies, and many more. Tom also served as Executive Director of Conservation Strategies from 2000-2010, a northwest regional organization working to increase the electoral clout of the conservation movement.

 

 

Marlee Miller, COO, leads organizations in improving the efficiency of their internal operations so they can focus on fulfilling their valuable missions. Prior to joining M+R, Marlee was COO at Progressive Majority, a national political organization that recruits, trains and helps elect progressive candidates on the state and local levels. Before that, she was COO at United Way of Long Island and spent 13 years in Texas and California managing regional business organizations. Marlee began her career running communications programs for Public Interest Research Groups in Montana and Colorado, and then joined the American Association of University Women’s marketing and communications team in Washington, D.C.

 

 

Donald Ross, Founder, provides strategic evaluation, campaign planning and political guidance to M+R clients including the MacArthur Foundation, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Oxfam America, and many others. Donald is a co-founder of M+R and a founding partner in the law firm of Malkin & Ross, based in Albany, NY. Working with Ralph Nader in the 1970s, Donald helped organize many of the nation’s Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs) and subsequently served nine years as director of the New York PIRG, which under his direction became one of the largest state-based citizen action groups in the country. In 1983, he founded Public Interest Projects, Inc. which has become a major provider of philanthropic services. From 1985 through 1999, Donald directed the Rockefeller Family Fund, and he continues to provide philanthropic advice to several individual donors and private foundations including the Tortuga Foundation, a consistent support of preserving wilderness areas. He has authored various studies on public policy issues, including two books on citizen advocacy.

 

 

Arthur Malkin, Founder, is founding partner of M+R and its affiliate, Malkin & Ross, and directs the lobbying activities of both firms, specializing in legislative strategies and communications. Artie served as legislative director of the New York Public Interest Research Group from 1978 to 1984, where he was responsible for developing and implementing NYPIRG’s legislative agenda. He was also the founder and first director of the Advocacy Training Center, where he taught lobbying and media skills to nonprofit organizations. During his 25+ years in Albany, Artie has been at the forefront of dozens of successful legislative campaigns, including efforts for a state Superfund law, a mental health parity law, reform of the Rockefeller Drug Laws, and funding for New York’s first stem cell research program.
