In May 2008, hundreds of American Diabetes Association (ADA) advocates came to Washington, D.C. to urge Members of Congress to act on behalf of the 23.6 million Americans with diabetes by increasing funding for diabetes research, supporting a reauthorization of the Special Diabetes Program and passing the ADA Restoration Act to eliminate unfair discrimination in the workplace.
To ensure that volunteers were prepared to meet with Members of Congress, M+R trained ADA leaders on how to help their advocates gain confidence in refining and delivering key talking points. On ADA’s Lobby Day, over 200 youth and adult advocates met with more than 300 Congressional offices!
