Since 2006, M+R has helped GMHC secure nearly $5 million in federal funding to expand its mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment programs for New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS. GMHC recently scored a huge victory in the ongoing fight to end HIV/AIDS by securing a $1.5 million Congressional earmark for 2010, one of the largest earmarks for an HIV/AIDS service organization in a decade!
M+R helped GMHC lock in the much-needed funding. We've also organized congressional briefings and multiple Lobby Days for GMHC. In 2007, for example, we designed and directed GMHC’s federal Lobby Day, which began with a morning congressional briefing attended by over 100 stakeholders, including representatives from congressional offices, government agencies and health advocates. A bus of 75 HIV/AIDS advocates from New York City then spent the rest of the day lobbying targeted congressional offices.
