The federal government gives away millions of dollars every year in the form of grants. But many organizations – even large and well-established ones – are unaware of federal funding options, or they simply don’t have the staff, resources, or time to pursue these opportunities. That revenue need not go untapped!
The federal lobbying team at M+R knows how to develop and orchestrate a seamless lobbying strategy to secure grants for our clients. We guide organizations through the complicated federal funding process, from short- or long-term planning to the delivery of funds.
With more than 15 years in Washington, M+R is able to leverage our strong presence on the Hill to help clients sustain or create programs that are vital to their communities. We pursue funding for projects as diverse as HIV/AIDS prevention, homeless youth education, construction and renovation, mental health treatment, drug prevention and outreach, organic farming, legal aid, and more.
Our Step by Step Services
- Understanding a client’s mission and needs;
- Identifying the federal funding opportunities for which the client may apply;
- Developing strategies to secure funding;
- Creating lobby materials that describe the client’s funding requests;
- Soliciting support for those requests from influential community leaders, government officials, and partner organizations;
- Writing and submitting federal applications on deadline; and
- Organizing and leading congressional lobby meetings to brief members and win support.
At M+R, we pride ourselves on obtaining federal grants for organizations even when they’ve been told they have “no chance.” When a national group dedicated to HIV and AIDS prevention first retained M+R at the federal level, it had been successful in winning local and state dollars, but even the organization’s strongest ally on the Hill didn’t believe it had a chance in Washington. M+R took the program up a notch despite the odds, aggressively pursuing federal funding options and securing the support of key Congressional policymakers. When Senator Hillary Clinton’s office called M+R to say the $2.6 million federal program grant had been approved for the organization, we knew our help had tipped the scales.
How’d we do it? Diligence and targeted messaging helped us recruit the critical support of influential Members of Congress. And more funding may be just around the corner for this important healthcare provider—what looked like a long shot at first has already resulted in nearly $3 million of new funding.
