When Human Rights First initially hired M+R, the organization wanted to break into issue campaigns in order to raise its visibility and build a committed constituency. Through EndTortureNow.org, M+R helped HRF recruit e-advocates for a campaign to stop U.S.-sanctioned torture and abuse. We then helped shape and promote the campaign offline through retired military generals who vocalized their opposition to U.S. torture practices and served as the campaign’s unique messengers.

The EndTortureNow.org campaign reshaped the national debate on torture and, as a result:
- HRF grew its email list from 20,000 to 50,000 supporters;
- Over 100,000 HRF e-activists sent letters or placed phone calls to key Congressional targets;
- Editorial boards around the country came out in strong support of anti-abuse legislation;
- John McCain’s legislation banning U.S. detainee abuse passed into law in 2005 by veto-proof margins; and
- HRF engaged a new, committed base of online supporters and increased its ability to advance human rights worldwide!
