Media & Democracy Coalition

In 2006, the Media & Democracy Coalition focused its field efforts in two states – Montana and Arkansas – in order raise awareness of the ongoing consolidation of media ownership and its suppression of democracy.  M+R helped the Coalition plan and manage campaigns in both states, organizing sign-on letters from local grasstops supporters, soliciting public comments to the FCC, mobilizing supporters to write letters to their Members of Congress, and conducting targeted outreach to small business owners, independent record labels and musicians, faith-based organizations, and academics. 

In three months, hundreds of concerned citizens and community organizations answered the call, urging the FCC to strengthen regulations for media consolidation.  The campaign earned newspaper, TV and radio coverage at the state and local levels and, with M+R’s help, the Coalition gained new fervent support in both states.
