Campaign for New York's Future

We love that New York City is booming, but growth also presents challenges – by 2030, the city will have one million more residents, an aging infrastructure and a more severe climate. That’s why M+R is helping the Campaign for New York’s Future – a broad coalition of 150+ civic, business, labor, environmental, religious, public health, and community groups – unite around Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s bold and visionary PlaNYC goals to make a cleaner, healthier and more livable New York, while also making a significant contribution to fighting climate change.

PlaNYC initiatives include creating more affordable housing, launching a congestion pricing pilot program, ensuring that all New Yorkers live within a 10-minute walk of a park, and reducing global warming emissions by more than 30% by 2030.

With help from M+R, the Campaign has organized advocacy days in Albany and neighborhood town hall meetings; launched an advocacy web site; mobilized a sea of supporters in green t-shirts at public hearings; coordinated direct mail and telephone outreach to educate New Yorkers; handed out leaflets on subway platforms; created a compelling TV ad about air pollution's dangerous effects on New York City kids and a short film about the benefits of congestion pricing; garnered press coverage in all of NY’s major papers; and much more.

M+R continues to work with the Campaign today to build understanding and support among decision-makers and the public for specific sustainability initiatives. From planting one million new trees to increasing the energy efficiency of New York’s vast building stock, we are simultaneously helping to maintain a vibrant coalition that can advance a program of sustainability beyond the initial opportunity and the Mayor’s original plan.
