Jessica Bosanko, Senior Consultant, joined M+R in November 2007 after spending years working with environmental nonprofits to recruit and engage supporters online. Most recently, Jessica spearheaded online outreach for Environmental Defense, managing promotions with companies like Yahoo! and Grist and garnering blog and online media attention for the organization’s work on global warming. She also created and executed online advocacy campaigns for the state PIRGs and the New Voters Project. She is a graduate of the S.I. Janna Chan, Consultant, helps plan and implement online advocacy, outreach and fundraising campaigns for M+R clients, including AARP and the Smithsonian Institute. Prior to joining M+R, Janna was the online content specialist for Lambda Legal, working on LGBT and HIV eCampaigns and creating all editorial content for the website. Trained as a journalist, Janna also spent significant time freelancing for publications such as the Village Voice, Seattle Magazine, AsianAvenue.com and the Seattle Monorail Project newsletter. When she wasn’t writing, she doubled as an assistant case worker for the King County Section 8 Program, advocating for low income and affordable housing. She was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Washington. jchan@mrss.com
Edymari De Leon, Associate, has a background in social research methods and analysis and grassroots organizing. She attended Middlebury College where she majored in Sociology, Anthropology and Russian. Edy has worked in direct social services and for nonprofits that serve children and the elderly in a variety of areas, including health. At Middlebury, she led a campaign to create the African American Studies Department and helped organize the college’s first Annual AIDS Awareness Week. She has volunteered for the Democratic and Green parties in New York City and Vermont. Besides English, Edy speaks Spanish, Russian, French and some Portuguese. While managing the NYC office, Edy has helped coordinate grassroots efforts for the Campaign for New York’s Future and the Save Darfur Coalition, among other clients.
Liz Ertner, Associate, brings nonprofit public relations and communications experience to M+R’s eCampaigns Team. After graduating from The George Washington University with a degree in Psychology, Liz conducted research for an extensive publication about women in early America. She then worked in the public relations field, writing and managing web site content and working on campaigns and publications for a D.C.-area nonprofit. For the past six years, Liz has been an active volunteer working with special needs children, and has been involved with volunteer programs in Philadelphia, D.C., and New York. lertner@mrss.com
Marie Ewald, Vice President, works with M+R clients to effectively plan and implement online and offline campaigns. She specializes in structuring online programs, writing for the web, and marketing issue-campaigns. Marie has helped launch large fundraising efforts for The Wilderness Society, significantly grow Human Rights First’s constituent base, and advance policy objectives for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Before joining M+R, Marie worked as a writer and editor in the national and international news departments at The Christian Science Monitor. Marie is a graduate of Stanford University.
Marjory Garrison, Managing Editor, helps M+R clients evaluate their issues and develop strategic plans for campaigns at all levels. An award-winning journalist by trade, she brings extensive research and editorial expertise to the M+R team, most recently serving as the first City Editor of the critical arts and culture journal, The Brooklyn Rail. Through in-depth research, integrated messaging and creative direction, Marjory has helped staff and board members of AARP, the New York Academy of Medicine, the Four Freedoms Fund, and others assess their issues and brand and market their campaigns. She has also worked with M+R clients to secure new funding from major foundation partners. Marjory has canvassed for New York State’s Working Families Party and helped New York City’s FoodChange promote nutrition and financial empowerment. Rajeev Goyal, Consultant, joined M+R in 2008 to help coordinate the MorePeaceCorps.org campaign. Rajeev specializes in international fund raising and volunteer-based rural development. Prior to working in the U.N. Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) as an interpreter/translator, he helped implement profit-generating water pumping infrastructure for schools in Nepal as a Peace Corps volunteer, for which he received the agency’s Franklin H. Williams Award. Rajeev, who has helped create model farm schools in Nepal through his Hopefor fundraiser series, earned his J.D. from NYU School of Law. rgoyal@mrss.com
James Hupp, Associate, joined the eCampaigns team in March 2007 after cutting his teeth at DC-area public affairs firm The Hawthorn Group, where he coordinated online communications for nonprofit and corporate clients. At M+R, James continues to work with progressive clients to develop and implement cutting-edge online outreach and fundraising. During his school days at Northwestern University, James interned with the finance department of the Obama for Illinois Senate campaign and was active in the Campus Alliance to End Gun Violence. He is a Kansas City native and holds a B.A. in philosophy and political science.
Dan Klotz, Vice President and Director of Communications, has helped publicize the growing menace of mercury pollution on behalf of Physicians for Social Responsibility, promoted the land rights action and environmental initiatives of the Onondaga Indian Nation, and highlighted the plight of Americans without health insurance during Cover the Uninsured Week, a national effort sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Prior to joining M+R, Dan handled media relations for the American Cancer Society, where he spearheaded the Society's efforts to pass New York City's smoking ban and promoted their educational outreach and public health advocacy. Dan has prepared spokespeople for all levels of media debates, including Inside City Hall on local media and Hardball with Chris Matthews on national media. He is a graduate of Cornell University.
Ya-Ting Liu, Consultant, helps plan, design and implement campaign strategies. She first joined M+R to coordinate coalition efforts for the Campaign for New York’s Future. Ya-Ting has a background in urban planning, project evaluation and policy analysis. She has worked on issues ranging from human rights to water sanitation in Nepal, India, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Most recently, she helped launch a women’s cooperative in Gujarat, India that aims to provide alternative employment and skills training to Dalit youth engaged in manual scavenging. Ya-Ting was a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs 2004-05. She received her B.S. from University of California, Berkeley and M.C.P. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Kim Milbrath, Senior Consultant, has led M+R’s work providing training, strategic planning and support to community organizations around local tobacco control policy initiatives for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota’s Center for Prevention. For the past 10 years, Kim has organized and trained volunteers and activists around social justice and policy issues such as women’s rights, civic participation, tobacco control, and LGBT health. Kim has also served as a fellow with the Leadership and Advocacy Institute to Advance Minnesota’s Parity for Priority Populations, working to address the disproportionate impact tobacco use has on the LGBT community. Michael O'Loughlin, NYC Office Director, specializes in developing and executing integrated strategies for issue-advocacy campaigns. Michael organized community support for passage of New York's Smoke-Free Workplace Act and coordinated the mobilizing effort for "Listening to the City," the historic meeting that rewrote plans for rebuilding Lower Manhattan after 9/11. Michael has also organized campaign operations for New York City mayoral and New York State legislative campaigns. Prior to joining M+R, he managed a variety of organizing and advocacy projects with the New York Public Interest Research Group. He received his degree from Princeton University.
Laura Raskin, Associate Editor, works with M+R clients on messaging development and strategy. Since graduating from the George Washington University in 2003 with a B.A. in journalism, Laura has written for local newspapers about everything from the effects of state legislation on small-town Vermont to the art scene on the island of Nantucket. She is a freelance writer in New York City and has been published in the New York Times, the Brooklyn Rail and the Brooklyn Paper. Debra Rosen, Vice President, helps plan and implement online advocacy, outreach, and fundraising campaigns for M+R clients, including Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Human Rights Campaign, Hillel, Common Cause, League of Conservation Voters, and many others. Debra recently returned to M+R after two cycles of political campaign work in the Midwest, where she served as outreach director for Lieberman for President in Iowa, the Iowa Democratic Party's Northeast Regional Director, and field organizer for Progressive Majority in St. Louis, MO. Prior to working for M+R, Debra worked for NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC and as a field organizer on several campaigns in Northern California.
Rebecca Wallach, Consultant, first came to M+R as a field organizer in the lead-up to the Stop Genocide: Save Darfur Now rally in New York City. She has a background in grassroots outreach and promotional strategies, recruiting and training volunteers and managing major grassroots events. Most recently, she managed outreach for the recycling program at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Rebecca has also directed campaigns for independent media and youth vote organizations, including Free Speech TV and the New Voters Project. She is a graduate of Wellesley College.
Michael Ward, Senior Vice President, develops and implements innovative Internet strategies on behalf of major nonprofits. Prior to joining M+R, Michael worked as the Senior Consultant for TechRocks. During his time at TechRocks he provided strategic advice on public affairs campaigns for leading pro-choice and environmental organizations. In addition, he oversaw the development of a cutting-edge technology-planning tool available to nonprofit organizations via the web. In 1992 Michael helped pioneer the use of the Internet as an effective organizing tool at the Center for Study of Responsive Law by using online tools to successfully advocate for public access to government databases. Michael graduated from Columbia University's Graduate School of International and Public Affairs.
