Integrated Online Advocacy and Fundraising

When M+R began working with Oxfam America, the organization had an email list of just 4,000 people.  Oxfam staff knew they were missing opportunities to raise funds and generate meaningful political impact online.  M+R helped Oxfam develop a 3-year plan for online fundraising and advocacy that included:

  • Building an email list through paid and earned media and viral list growth;
  • Converting offline donors to online giving;
  • Developing a personalized strategy for activists recruited through offline events;
  • Creating online fundraising campaigns for Oxfam’s ongoing and emergency relief work;
  • Maximizing online donations through ongoing appeals and a redesigned giving form;
  • Testing and standardizing a monthly giving program aimed at recent donors; and
  • 501(c)4 fundraising for legislative advocacy work.

With M+R’s help, since 2002 Oxfam has built an email list of nearly 300,000 individuals and raised more than $34 million online!  We continue to help Oxfam develop and implement an innovative program to support its critical relief work around the globe.

From the formidable force of MoveOn.org to the outpouring of money raised by relief organizations in the aftermath of the South Asian tsunami, online advoacy is now the key to connecting citizens with organizations and causes. No other medium allows agencies to be as flexible, interactive, and responsive for such a low cost.
