Social Media Strategist

M+R Strategic Services is looking for a Social Media Strategist to work on successful, cutting-edge online campaigns. You’ll work with the Online and Campaigns divisions, on behalf of progressive, public-interest nonprofit organizations to leverage social media strategies to raise brand awareness, recruit and mobilize supporters, and influence public policy.

You’ll work on some of the best causes of the day – from ending Alzheimer’s to combating global poverty to fighting for marriage equality to improving global food security, and much more!

Job Responsibilities

The social media strategist will be responsible for overseeing M+R’s social media services for clients. This person will be the lead on optimizing current social media products and services as well as developing new ones that integrate seamlessly and amplify media relations campaigns, online advocacy and fundraising campaigns, and grassroots organizing campaigns.

  • Audit existing social media programs for clients: Evaluate the strategy and implementation of clients’ social media programs, monitor the current chatter taking place about clients on social networks, research the social media presence of clients’ competitors, and provide strategic recommendations for program improvements.
  • Ongoing social media monitoring: Monitor the online conversation around clients’ issues and its brand, deliver reports on social media stats and trending topics, provide recommendations on how to leverage online conversations to convert new fans, recruits or donors, and optimize client profiles on an ongoing basis.
  • Run campaigns: Plan and execute a variety of campaigns across social media channels, including, but not limited to, advocacy, fundraising, email recruitment, audience/activists growth, event organizing, brand visibility, awareness /supporter education and product/content promotion.
  • Monitor social media trends: Regularly monitor and evaluate the social media landscape for effective new tools, trends and strategies.
  • Marketing: Lead our Social Media Benchmarks study, conduct external trainings, represent M+R at industry conferences and trainings, contribute to M+R’s blog “Research Labs,” look for new ways to reach M+R’s audience online, and oversee M+R’s internal social media strategy.
  • Business Development: Identify prospective social media clients and pitch social media engagements to current clients. Help develop proposals, and participate in pitch meetings with other M+R staff.
  • Bolster company-wide social media knowledge-base: Lead internal staff trainings, knowledge-sharing processes, and develop internal resource and best practice documents.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a senior professional that meets all of the following qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience running a highly developed social media program (primarily using Facebook and Twitter) for a non-profit, corporation or elected official.
  • Deep professional background in campaign organizing, media relations, marketing and/or online communications is required, experience with online fundraising is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering in-person presentations, webinars and trainings.
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience with progressive causes and grassroots organizing is strongly preferred.
  • We will give preference to candidates with agency experience.

    Organizing Strategist

    M+R Strategic Services is looking for an energetic, ambitious campaigner to join our team in Washington, DC, as a full-time Organizing Strategist in our Campaigns Division. You’ll become an integral part of the campaigns team at M+R, supporting grassroots organizing, coalition management, stakeholder engagements efforts and implementing integrated advocacy campaigns with communications and online colleagues on behalf of M+R’s nonprofit clients across the country.

    Job Responsibilities
    Specific job responsibilities include:

    • Strategy & Planning: Develop advocacy, constituent engagement, and online organizing strategies for clients and write long and short-term plans for the implementation.
    • Client Management: Serve as a point of contact for 3-4 nonprofit clients, managing the day-to-day relationship with those clients and managing the internal team serving those clients.
    • Project Management: Manage organizing initiatives from plan development through execution, ensuring project benchmarks are accomplished. Examples include managing a team of state-based organizers, planning and implementing an event or rally, and microsite development.
    • Online / Offline Advocacy: Successfully employ digital tools to support offline organizing, including recruiting, communicating with, and engaging supporters. Examples include setting email and social media strategy, identifying technology needs, and crafting compelling online communications
    • Message & Content Development: Develop and write materials that engage our clients’ supporters and support their public policy campaigns, including advocate tip sheets, advocacy and press templates, and email and social media action alerts.
    • Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct outreach to, enlist, and maintain relationships with potential allied groups or individuals on individual campaigns; manage coalitions and partner with clients to engage stakeholders and constituents.
    • New Client Acquisition: Identify prospective clients, make phone and in-person pitches, participate in pitch meetings with other M+R staff.

    We’re looking for someone who wants to work in a team and who enjoys the dynamic of a fast-paced organization where we juggle multiple projects on tight deadlines simultaneously without dropping the ball. We need a smart, talented, ambitious individual who gets both online and offline organizing and is committed to making a difference.

    Successful applicants must be detail-oriented, experienced at managing multiple projects at once, have exceptional written and in-person communication skills, and a command of new and emerging technologies.

    5+ years of advocacy experience for non-profits or political candidates is required. Online organizing and/or agency experience is strongly preferred.

    Online Associate

    M+R Strategic Services is looking for an Associate to join our team of Internet experts to work on successful, cutting-edge online campaigns. You’ll be an integral part of the eCampaigns Team at M+R, working with progressive, public-interest nonprofit organizations to recruit online activists, influence public policy, raise money online, and deepen relationships with online supporters. You’ll work with some of the best nonprofit causes of the day – establishing equality with Human Rights Campaign, protecting reproductive rights with NARAL Pro-Choice America and fighting global poverty with Oxfam America.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Participate in a team to create and implement effective Internet campaigns for progressive non-profit clients;
    • Manage technology needed to set up and manage online communications;
    • Manage online and traditional media communications campaigns;
    • Draft action alerts, fundraising appeals, and other creative materials;
    • Run queries and create monthly client reports to track email messaging, advocacy campaigns, membership recruitment, and return on investment;
    • Manipulate and manage data and help draft memos on campaign results;
    • Assist in managing online paid marketing campaigns;

    Full Time Communications Intern, Campaigns Division

    We are seeking a strong, hard-working and motivated candidate to join our team as a “Full Time Communications Intern.”

    Intern responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

    • Assist with writing, proofreading, copying, and distributing press materials (press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, follow-up letters, etc.)
    • Research various media outlets for story angles and placement ideas
    • Build and maintain media lists for various client projects
    • Assist with the development of new business presentations
    • Compile and record clips of client’s media coverage

    Qualifications:

    Developer

    M+R Strategic Services is looking for a Developer to join our team of developers and online campaigning-experts in implementing online campaigns for some of the best progressive nonprofits out there.

    At M+R, you’ll use your front-end development skills to create engaging user experiences that break through the monotony of the usual donation and advocacy experiences and deliver remarkable results for clients such as Human Rights Campaign, AARP and Oxfam America.

    Please note: this is NOT an IT position.

    Job Responsibilities

    The Developer will work with a team of online advocacy and fundraising professionals as well as clients and technology vendors. We’re looking for someone who enjoys a fast-paced organization where we juggle multiple projects on tight deadlines simultaneously without dropping the ball. Responsibilities include:

    • Creating new, exciting web applications for online campaigns through a mix of Javascript, PHP, HTML/CSS and APIs from online customer relationship management (eCRM) tools, including Convio, Salsa, ActionKit, Kintera, and Blue State Digital.
    • Developing and troubleshooting Facebook or mobile applications, from wireframes to coding to roll out and testing.
    • Working with client teams to develop and test the donation interactions that make M+R a leader in research-driven results.
    • Creating campaign microsites, which are small (2-5 pages), issue-specific web sites that are independently promoted and designed to maximize recruitment, advocacy or fundraising.
    • Developing interactive maps to help visualize and spur supporter engagement.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field with 1-3 years of work experience.   Additionally, candidates must be detail-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, and have experience managing multiple projects at once.

    Required

    • Mastery of cross-browser friendly HTML + CSS markup.
    • JavaScript, including the jQuery library.
    • Object-oriented PHP, including familiarity with PHP-driven CMS platforms (WordPress, Drupal) and/or PHP frameworks such as Symfony, Cake or Code Igniter.
    • MySQL or other SQL-based relational databases for web application data storage.
    • Knowledge of best practices for responsive design and mobile optimization.

    Senior Vice President, Campaigns Division

    Position Summary

    The Senior Vice President, Campaigns, would help lead integrated issue campaigns on behalf of M+R clients, coordinating online and offline grassroots and grasstops campaigns from our DC headquarters and providing our clients with campaign and political strategy.  You’ll work with a creative team of professionals who have experience and passion for designing and running integrated campaigns.  You’ll also work on some of the most important issues of the day with leading nonprofit organizations such as Easter Seals, American Lung Association, USAgainstAlzheimer’s, AARP and many others.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Develop integrated organizing strategies. Work with M+R staff and clients to develop, plan and execute overarching field and political strategies at the federal and state levels, working closely with a multidisciplinary team of online, communications and organizing specialists.
    • Build and grow coalitions. Work closely with our clients to identify potential coalition partners, conduct or supervise outreach to potential coalition members and secure their support.
    • Drive new business, working with senior and executive level M+R colleagues to identify, pursue and secure new integrated issue-campaign work.
    • Provide strategic and policy input to M+R colleagues.  Report on strategy and implementation of grassroots/grasstops efforts in order to help keep colleagues up to date on new political developments as well as market our campaign successes.
    • Build and maintain relationships with allied organizations and political contacts. Create and maintain strong relationships with allies and political contacts in order to benefit the work of M+R clients.
    • Manage the M+R field team, including our DC-based staff and network of organizers across the country.

     Qualifications

    • 10+ years of experience in field organizing, political strategy and policy development.
    • Demonstrated success developing and managing issue-specific campaigns designed to move public policy through a mix of online and offline advocacy strategies.
    • Experience building and working with coalitions.
    • First-hand knowledge and strong understanding of the intersections among issue campaigns, policy development, lobbying and political campaigns.
